Club Meeting – October 24th, 2013

Heurtematte 102413Today Ed Heurtematte our Club Communications Officer gave an overview of the Club’s Internet presence.  He encouraged members to use the Club website as their portal to the World of Rotary.

The Club maintains four online sites.  Two websites (the Rotary Club of Salem website and Olde Salem Days website), a Facebook page and an administrative site provided by our Rotary District 7570.

The purpose of the Club website is to inform members of Club activities, improve community outreach and support Club fundraising efforts.  There is also information and links to sources where one can learn more about District 7570 and Rotary International projects and events.

Our second website is OldeSalemDays.com, which promotes Olde Salem Days (OSD).  OSD is one of our Club’s two major fundraising efforts, the other fundraiser, of course, being the ODAC Basketball Tournament.

We are currently renovating our Facebook presence so non-Facebook account holders can view its content without having to open a Facebook account.  We expect that project to be completed in the not too distant future.

Lastly, via a username and password log-in, the District and Club database (DaCdb) website provides a means to track membership data for internal Club use (only), as well as, conveying membership information to District 7570 and Rotary International.  Club members were encouraged to log-in and edit their own contact and membership information to keep data current.  Members were also shown that the DaCdb website can be used by Club Committees and individual members to facilitate communication among Club members by email.

An underlying theme throughout the presentation was that the ongoing success of our Internet presence is completely reliant on Club member’s participation and providing content.   These sites serve to reflect – who we are, what we do and why we do it.
