Club Meeting – October 1, 2015
David Stewart Wiley, Roanoke Symphony Orchestra
The club enjoyed music intertwined with updates on the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra (RSO) by David Stewart Wiley, who is celebrating his 20th year as Music Director. David told us that the RSO remains strong and vital, with more offerings than ever in its 63 year history. The Symphony now plays at the new Moss Center at Virginia Tech as well as in Martinsville, Covington, Roanoke and Salem. Some of their concerts are now broadcast on TV and radio to students and other audiences.
As usual, David’s piano pieces were excellent. He played “Oh Lord I’m On My Way” and another selection by Gershwin, as well as “Concentric Circles,” a piece he composed for the movie Lake Effects.
