Club Meeting – November 17th, 2016
Earline Orndorff, Chair of the Christmas for Kids Committee got things started with a review of our need for volunteers and the times and places where they would be needed. Event dates and times are posted in the Events Calendar 12/9 and 12/10. Sign up at our December 1st meeting!
This event enables club members to engage in children’s lives in a special way. This would not be possible without the invaluable assistance to the City of Salem Elementary School Counselors. We had the pleasure of hosting the counselors from GW Carver, Sheri Smith; East Salem, Mary Gregory; South Salem, Mandy Dallas and West Salem, Christina Rose. Ms. Rose gave a brief speech on the importance of this day to the children and teachers alike.
Past President Dr. Bertram Spetzler closed with a brief history of the worldwide fight against polio and the significant role the Rotary Foundation has played to limit new polio cases to only a few isolated war-torn corners of the globe. Over the last several decades Rotarians have participated in one of humankind’s more noteworthy accomplishments. Last year our club took the lead in a District 7570 campaign that raised $250,000 to help end polio. We are This Close to eradicating polio.
