Today we enjoyed another in a series of programs highlighting organization representing the fine arts community in the Roanoke Valley.  In addition to today’s speaker Della Watkins Executive Director of the Taubman Museum of Art, we have recently hosted Opera Roanoke, Mill Mountain Theatre and the Southwest Virginia Ballet.

Ms. Watkins is stabilizing and evolving the initial vision for the Taubman Museum of Arts in a business like fashion.  The Taubman Museum has restructured loans, trimmed operations to run on a balanced budget and with the help of Advanced Auto enabled visitors to enjoy free admission.   The museum over the last year  has offered 170,000+ visitors the opportunity to enjoy varied exhibits and to learn about the fine arts.  Ms. Watkins has leveraged previous associations, as with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, to arrange for high quality exhibits to be shown at the Taubman Museum.

Della Watkins successfully dispelled misconceptions held toward the Taubman Museum and made a convincing presentation that more in the community will soon appreciate the potential the museum holds to enhance the life of those in the region.
