Club Meeting – May 9th

Rotarian Carter Dages, from the Innsbruck (VA) Rotary Club, visited with us last meeting.  Carter is at the beginning of a cross-country bike tour to raise money for the Wounded Warrior Project.  If you are interested in following Carter’s journey or contributing to his goal of raising $50,000 to support wounded veterans, visit his website at: www.CartersFundraiser.org

The Club received a District 7570 Award for our donating the third highest amount in the District to the Rotary Foundation’s Annual Fund in Rotary year 2012-13.

The Club inducted a New Member, Jeff Howard, sponsored by Lisa Garst.

Our speaker today was Trevor Long a member of the Rotary Club of Algoa Bay in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.  Mr. Long is a distinguished Rotarian who traveled here to participate in Rotary International’s Council of Legislation.  We learned of new rules governing the issuance of matching grants and about the on-going matching grants projects initiated between his Club and Clubs in District 7570.  Trevor also explained how Rotary has changed since the end of apartheid in South Africa and the challenges clubs face in recruiting black members.
