CRUISE-IN for PTSD Awarness – August 16th, 2013

CRUISE-IN081613Our thanks to Barney Horrell for providing photos and reporting on the Rotary Club of Salem hosting its 3rd Annual Candle Light Vigil at the Salem Veterans Administration shopparajumpers.se Medical Center in support of Veterans and families affected by Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) on Friday night the 16th.  The CRUISE-IN was attended by Club members –  John Hahn,  Barney Horrell, and Herm Reavis.

“Herm did a wonderful job as emcee.  He took the microphone on more than one occasion and welcomed everyone, explained the purpose of the event, introduced the band, repeatedly mentioned Rotary’s participation, and was an overall model ambassador of our club.  John Hahn made the extraordinary effort of participating in the event only a short time after brain surgery and a subsequent fall.  At one particularly touching moment Herm took the stage to recognized our friend John and his determination to be a part of the event.”

“Overall the event was a great success.  There were many beautifully restored classic cars on display, a lively band playing bluegrass favorites, and plenty of good food.  The VA hospital staff set up tents and had staff on hand to distribute literature on the signs and effects of PTSD as well as to answer questions and provide contact information to those seeking help.  A good number of VA patients came out of the hospital to view the cars, shopparajumpers listen to the music, and enjoy the beautiful evening visiting with old and new friends.”
