Club Meeting – January 14th, 2016
Today we had a full program agenda.
We were brought up to date on Rotary Foundation news by Past District Governor Ron Ferrill (a recipient of Rotary International’s Service Above Self Award) our District Foundation Chair. Our long-time Rotarians are re-energized by hearing of the Rotary Foundation’s continued good works and success of projects sponsored by their ongoing support. New members benefit by learning from PDG Ron about his personal experiences in RI Foundation activities around the world. Clean water and the Polio Eradication were two of the Rotary Foundation’s areas of focus discussed.
Prior to PDG Ron’s very informative presentation, Club President Tommy showed the Club the check he was going to present that evening at an event honoring the Salem High School Spartans for their championship season. The team’s 83 touchdowns and our pledge to donate $100 to PoiloPlus for each touchdown scored led to President Tommy holding up an $8,300.00 with pride.
Our program agenda was kicked off by news about an integral part of one of our major fund raisers, the Olde Salem Days Classic Car Show… Ron Vanderpool of the Roanoke Valley Region Antique Automobile Club of America reported to Club of the proceeds generated by the car show, a very popular Olde Salem Days attraction. The car show had over 90 participants last year!
