Club Meeting – February 11th, 2016 (Updated 2/16/16)
Our speaker today was Phillip C. Stone President of Sweet Briar College, a small women’s liberal arts college located in Sweet Briar, Virginia about 12 miles north of Lynchburg, Virginia. President Stone shared with us the story, as seen from his eyes, of how Sweet Briar rose figuratively from the ashes.
We learned of the circumstances surrounding the school’s brief closure and how the devotion and commitment of the college’s alumni were instrumental in its revival. President Stone’s leadership during the chaotic reopening and management of the following weeks of operation show that Sweet Briar is in good hands. One of many achievements noted is Sweet Briar being one of two ABET-accredited engineering programs at women’s colleges. With Sweet Briar experiencing a record number of applicants the future looks bright.

Prior to our program we inducted a new member, Richard Holbrook, to our Club. Richard was sponsored by Dan Wooldridge. Welcome Richard!
