Club Meeting – December 18th, 2014
Our meeting opened with a Christmas for Kids update by Earline Orndorff. This special holiday event was held on the 13th and was a resounding success for all involved. Dozens of Club members help make this a meaningful and fun event for 40 City of Salem Elementary School children and their families.
Our Christmas program featured Aaron Garber as our “guest” artist. We were treated to Aaron’s many artistic talents as he sang a medley of Christmas tunes comprising White Christmas, Silver Bells, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and What Child is This. Aaron then stayed at the keyboard as President Bert and Clarine shared with the Club a bit of the Spetzler family Christmas tradition.
The Spetzler’s didn’t have a Christmas tree till after dinner on Christmas Eve. Part of the tradition was to have real candles on the tree. So today we lit candles, which were diligently watched, during the singing of selected Christmas carols in the Spetzler family tradition. Members participated with varying degrees of vigor and harmony in the sing along ending as tradition dictates in Silent Night.
The Club shared a warm, good time of fellowship prior to the pause in Rotary Club meetings over the coming Christmas and New Years’s days which this year fall on Thursday.
A Merry, Merry and a Happy, Happy to all!
