Club Meeting – July 7th, 2016

Lisa Garst is our 70th Club President. iPast President Tommy last week stated “very few great things are accomplished without enthusiasm”, if so, we are then in-store for some great things under President Lisa’s leadership.

Happy iPast New Club Queen 063016President Lisa became a club member in March 2008. The theme for her year in office is all about “the community we live in and the communities we create”. The inspiration for her theme traced back to her sponsor Jim Tanney. She recalled the perseverance he showed to introduce her to the Rotary Club of Salem and how members sparked her interest to join the family of Rotary. President Lisa spoke of how her community grew within the Club as she sat at different tables during meetings, participated in projects, served on committees and on the Board of Directors.

President Lisa shared with the Club the results of her member survey taken prior to assuming office. The survey helped illustrate the value she places on member’s input and how the Club offers members an opportunity to utilize their talents in pursuing the Rotary motto of Service Above Self.

Alvaro Return Visit 0616Our incoming Club President also reviewed how Club projects and programs help bring people together to foster a sense of community and international goodwill. Whether it be interacting with fellow Rotarians, sponsoring a Dog Park in Salem or hosting foreign exchange students for a year, opportunities arise to make friendships which last for years. Rotary creates an environment where members can utilize their individual skills to make our community and the world a better place.

We look forward to share with President Lisa another year of Rotary Serving Humanity.
