Club Meeting – January 12th, 2017

Today we enjoyed our second visit by Whit Babcock (the first being three years ago when our speaker was the new Athletic Director at VA Tech).  He has been a busy man in the interim.

“In less than three years at Virginia Tech, Athletic Director Whit Babcock has made a name for himself orchestrating two of the splashiest coaching hires in school history in football Coach Justin Fuente and basketball Coach Buzz Williams. On Tuesday, Virginia Tech announced a contract extension that will keep its highly regarded athletic director in Blacksburg through the 2024 school year.”

Mr. Babcock shared his philosophy and personal insights that have fostered the continuation of a winning tradition both on and off the field for student athletes attending Va Tech.  From his comments about Coach Fuentes and Coach Williams to the lasting impressions made by retired Coach Beamer Rotary Club of Salem members, especially the many Hokie fans, thoroughly enjoyed his presentation.  Some of Mr. Babcock’s favorite quotes on leadership from Colin Powell rounded out the positive take-aways to be had for even the non-sports fans in the audience.  We look forward to cheering on Mr. Babcock’s continuing success!
