Club Meeting – June 19th, 2014

Samuel R. Carter III
Samuel R. Carter III

Our Club cannot be a sum greater than its part without the leadership shown year after year by those who accept the responsibility to be our Club President.  Today Samuel R. Carter III continued this tradition and humbly thanked all who helped him guide the Rotary Club of Salem to another successful year.

Prior to President Sam’s address, June Hall Long informed members of our World Community Service activities over the last year that led to $10,000 being donated to projects in Southeast Asia, the Caribbean and in Central and South America. (More details will be posted to our International Service page in the coming weeks.)

As is common with Club Presidents nearing the end of their term, President Sam joked “the closer to the end you get, the bigger the smile”.

Thank you President Sam for making our smiles wider
and brighter over the past year!

Below is a brief overview of what the Club achieved while President Sam was at the helm.  You can visit Rotary Recaps to review many the programs and events we shared over the last year.

In 2013-2014 The Rotary Club of Salem was presented with District 7570 awards in the following categories:

Gold Club Award
Foundation Giving – 2nd Place
Community Service – 2nd Place
Best Web Presence – 2nd Place

District 7570 “Service Above Self” Award to Joseph W. Ferguson

Our Club channels its energies toward our two major annual fundraising events… The ODAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament and Olde Salem Days.  Those events and others like the Star-B-Q generate proceeds that enable the Club to…

Distribute $40,000+ to local service, support, and non-profit organizations.

Make Paul Harris Fellow recognitions to non-Rotarians in the community representing contributions to the Rotary Foundation of well over $35,000.

Over and above the international and community contributions reported above this year the Club completed a two year Community Service and International Service project which will provide almost $300,000 worth of home hardware products to help build schools and nonprofit ministries in the Dominican Republic and Guatemala.

Above are only a few of the programs and projects that define what our Club accomplished under President Sam’s guidance.  You can visit Rotary Recaps to review many the programs and events we shared over the last year.
